THE CALL:
A devastating fire broke out in an early 1900s historic residence when a handyman misused a blowtorch on the top floor, causing a fire to spread rapidly throughout the home. To make matters worse, asbestos was discovered in the plaster, requiring the entire home to be gutted down to the studs.
The fire left the historic 3-story home in need of a complete rebuild. This included a new slate roof, all new windows, new electrical and plumbing systems, an updated HVAC system, and extensive custom trim work. Jenkins Restorations took on the complex and historically sensitive fire damage restoration and rebuild, combining modern upgrades with the home’s original character.
OUR SOLUTION:
The project began with reframing the structure using custom-milled rough-cut lumber to match the original. A new slate roof was installed and supported by four-story scaffolding that surrounded the property. The Jenkins team additionally had to repair and reinforce all of the brickwork after further damage occurred from a storm during construction.
Interior and System Upgrades:
- Spray foam insulation was added to all exterior walls for improved energy efficiency
- A full smart home electrical system installed, allowing lighting and switches to be controlled via Google
- Assistant or smartphone
- A dedicated walk-in closet for electrical panels, networking, and security equipment
- Installation of a high-efficiency geothermal HVAC system
- Full property security camera system integrated with the smart home network
Custom Finishes:
- Precision-crafted crown molding on the first floor consisting of five separate trim pieces
- Updated trim design with varying complexity on each floor of the home
