THE CALL:
A residential property suffering severe and extensive fire damage was subjected to asbestos-containing debris being spread onto the surrounding yard during firefighting efforts. The debris contaminated the exterior areas of the home and surrounding property.
The fire also left the home structurally compromised. Roof trusses were completely destroyed, and significant safety concerns made the site inaccessible without specialized precautions.
To complete this project, specialized equipment methods were critical to ensure safety. Despite the holiday season constraints, the team delivered on time and without compromise.
OUR SOLUTION:
The Jenkins Environmental team performed comprehensive asbestos abatement while ensuring environmental safety and structural stability. Including:
- 70 ft x 70 ft containment area
- Removal of contaminated debris, soil, sod, and vegetation using asbestos-specific dumpsters and secure hauling for hazardous waste
- Tree removal for affected exterior areas
- Installation of temporary power for abatement operations
- Air clearance testing to ensure safe re-entry after each phase of the job
THE CHALLENGE:
Removing asbestos-contaminated sod was more complex than anticipated due to asbestos fibers binding to both soil and grass. The team utilized an electric sod cutter for the precise removal of contaminated soil, and built a walk-out dumpster to transport hazardous material without risk of secondary contamination.
THE RESULT:
In just three months, the Jenkins team cleared all hazardous materials and decontaminated the entire site. The home’s structure and surrounding yard were thoroughly cleared, stabilized, and brought into compliance with safety standards. The project was completed before the new year, providing the homeowner with peace of mind and a fresh start for 2024.
